Every time I drive through Blackduck Minnesota I forget to take a picture of the statue. I remembered yesterday, which is a good thing, because it implies my brain is not totally shot. Around the state are some very interesting statues, they are all over the place in fact.
The town of Blackduck was established around December of 1900. Toted for the trees which loggers drool to harvest. There was so much logging going on the President Roosevelt opened Camp Rabideau. It consisted of 2,650 camps for men and is now a well kept National Historic Landmark.
These days Blackduck is a normal small USA town, but actually has a lot going on. Grocery stores, hardware, banks, school, National Park, excellent grainary and the crown of all sewing things to women, a fabric outlet store. So if your skipping around Northern Minnesota, stop by Blackduck. Head on in to AmericInn for a night or two, check out the food at Trails End or Countryside restaurant. Tour the camps for a day and do some fishing.
