The Junk Drawer
Another project that we can check off the ever growing “to do list”. The gym door has been torn apart and put back together, just a few minor touches need to be done. American Aluminum is the company that made this door, and could have been huge in the 80’s for puzzles. This bloody door was 16 million times worse than the Rubik’s Cube! It took the husband, our son and myself to get the thing apart and back together again. Not to mention a philips screwdriver, sawzall, huge flat head screwdriver, whammy bar, impact screwdriver, router and a mini sledge hammer/splitting mal. Oh and 2 pairs of leather gloves, some sweat and kicking. All that just to get the center section out, how sad. Once we had it down to just the frame, and it was still intact mind you, all the screw heads were visible. However, the door frame is something of an enigma. You could not just take out the screws and have the door pull apart into 4 frame pieces, oh no that would have been logical. We are still not sure how the hell they put this thing together, the laws of logic or physics do NOT apply to this door. There were screws in the frame that you could not get to, but they were holding the whole damn thing together. Needless to say we beat the sucker apart and replaced some screws, and here are the fruits of our labor (and tons of sweat and silent swear word dictionary). Since the kids were outside with us normal swear words could not be used, because this door would have us using them at a rapid pace. At one point I yelled at the door, “YOU PANCAKE FLIPPER!”, don’t ask what the hell I meant by that but it made me feel better 🙂
And now I have daylight for winter. Bring it on!
