Adventures Of Orthos
The other day I took my two kids out fishing. There is a lake behind our house and this really cool swamp. Oh man! The swamp has the blackest muck and it sticks really well to your fur. My mom is not so happy about the swamp, but I love it! Anyway, I took the two kids out fishing at the lake. Now, you have to be careful because there are a lot of big chomping turtles that hang out there. Also, a huge furry mean old beaver, and he has made a castle at the edge of the bog.
So fishing went well, and it was the first time I really tried it. I have to say, I’m thinking I might just be a natural. Our dock sits on a cove and half of it is bog. Really nice in the summer, wild irises grow ten feet there. Plus us dogs jump off the dock onto the bog and run around. It gushes and is bouncy, so when you run then jump a geyser of muddy water shoots up into the air. Very cool! You have to watch the bog though, it is pieces that float out into the lake sometimes. You can be playing and the hunk you’re standing could float off and you have to swim back. Next to the bog in the cove is a clean path of water and the fish come swimming up the path. I stand in the water and let them swim by my legs, long brown legs pretty much look like trees to the fish. If you stand still that is. Buck can’t do this because he shoves his face in the water trying to sniff. He is cute but I don’t think he is the sharpest tool in the shed. Shayla is what mom calls a crazy girl. A total ball of energy jumping around and spazzing out bouncing off trees while running around. She is fun but a worthless fisher dog right now. I stand there, let the fish swim by and then start stomping and biting in the water. To my surprise I got two fish! I brought them back home to my mom, who was out in the yard doing something about trimming the bushes for fall.
Once again I took this opportunity to show my mom what a protector I can be. I tore those fish apart in the yard, Buck and Shayla got in on the action. We had a big ole, slimy tug-o-war with the fish. I won of coarse, well, because I am bigger 😉 We carried the pieces of fish to my mom, knocked her over in the grass and laid some affectionate kisses on her. I thought I heard the word no a few times, but Buck kept trying to stick his tongue in her mouth. Any way turns out I am a pretty darn good fisher dog. New updated list of things I have caught and brought my mom: shrews-check, squirrels-check, mouse-check, humyummy bird-check, and fish-CHECK!
