Adventures Of Orthos
Last night WAS the BEST EVER! Mom let us outside to go potty before bedtime. She was running a little late. Buck, was about to wet his coat. Shayla was half alseep and ran face first into the door. Come 11 pm the pups are pretty much tuned out to the world. That is gonna have to change if they are going to be any help to me on night time patrols. I know they are young and at 6 months old this big boy was cuddled up with mom too, but they have to start growing up now. Tasha ran all the patrols when I was young, but she bit me one night, and I have been on patrol ever since. Truth? They really need to clone me. This is a really big house and yard for just me to protect alone. I know for a fact a pack of wolves has a den across the road! Those baby wolves yip all the time and I have heard a big wolf in the woods of OUR yard! Worries me when the kids are in the backyard and a howl goes off close by. I start shoving, yes I have been known to grab a shirt and drag a child, to the back door by the chickens. That is normally where mom hangs out working on the patio, birds or at the edge of the woods trimming.
Oh yeah, last night, lost my train of thought there for a moment. Before I was through the french doors my hair was up. The few seconds it took me to slam out the front metal doors, I was on level 5 alert! There in the herb garden, right in the front yard, stood a WOLF! The thing busted into the woods running off when it saw me charging after it. I heard mom yell back into dad to get the flashlight there was a wolf, so I circled the yard. I ran back to check on the Cluckettes and Mickey the duck, they were fine no feathers ruffled there.
Dad came out with the light and gun. I circled the front yard and along the edge of the woods. Dad said, “protect mom”! I stayed in the front patrolling, Shayla ran to the front door WHINING! Buck, well he surprised everyone including me. He stood growling, on guardin front of our mom. There seems to be more to Sir Sniff’s Alot than any of us knew. A potential helper, although only a little of knee high the munchkin he is, has come forward. Sometimes big things come in small packages, just look at Minnie Mouse that 3 year old can be a terror! I see intense training in Sir Sniff’s Alot’s future, no matter how much he cries about it.
In the backyard, dad walked around in the shadows until he finally heard a stick break. Standing in the opening of our trails where the tall pines are, the wolf stood by the tree where the trail sign hung, “Chase Run”. Dad shot down by its front feet to scare it, off into the woods it ran. It wasn’t until we were in, the pups were sleeping, I had my “good boy Othros” treats, and I was laying on the bed with mom and dad getting my “at-uh-boys” I realized something. The wolf was almost as big as me! I think I need to eat my Wheaties! That is not the only wolf around here and I hear there are black bears in these woods. I need to bulk up and train harder grrrr. My first birthday is in about 2 weeks, time to dog up and kiss this puppiness goodbye!
*Side note, every dog in this family has a nickname except me. Tasha is “the monster”, Buck is “Sir Sniff’s Alot”, Shayla is most defiantly “the crazy girl”. I want a name! Orthos um what? The Defender? The Protector? The Fearsome…help me out here people.
