Projects & Recipes
This morning I firsthand got my chance to try out this recipe, thanks to my 2 boys. It works like a charm but there are a few steps you do ahead of time.
What you need:
1 gallon of water
1 small box of baking soda
1 normal size bottle of hydrogen peroxide
2 t. dish washing soap
Doing the deed:
First put on clothing you don’t mind getting funky. Next wear rubber gloves or plastic bags on your hands. Have towels ready to dry the dog off and a fresh set of clothing for you to jump into. To start you will need to wash the dog with normal dog shampoo and rinse. I a bucket put in a gallon of water, 2 teaspoons of liquid dish soap that removes grease. See the spray from a skunk is oily not watery so you want a soap that will break up oil/grease, such as Dawn dish soap. Next add your small box of baking soda and last the hydrogen peroxide. It will bubble when you add the peroxide. Grab a rag and start rubbing the dog down with the mixture in the bucket. Cover them good and down to the skin. Allow to sit for 8 to 10 minutes and then rinse. If the dog still sporting O’dee skunk then pour remainder of bucket on the dog and sit for another 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and dry the de-skunked dog off well. Happy de-skunking.
